About Us

Our Mission

Toys for Teachers collects and redistributes donated toys to teachers of students with disabilities.

Our Toy Story

On August 3, 2017 Toys for Teachers was founded by a special education teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools. With the belief that no special education teacher should have to choose between paying for their students' toys or going without, she sought ways to alleviate financial constraints and make toys accessible for all special education classrooms in need. Teachers are never charged for the help they receive through Toys for Teachers. Toys for Teachers is made possible by the kindness and generosity of others. Thank you for being a part of our story.

More Than Just Toys

The toys that are donated to Toys for Teachers are used in special education classrooms. Unlike instructional resources, toys are often not funded in special education classrooms. However, they serve as the backbone to a strong behavioral program and the implementation of researched based methods like Applied Behavior Analysis. For students with disabilities, toys are used to teach. Every day, special education teachers are using toys to improve students’ adaptive behavior, social skills, and functional communication.

Toys for Teachers

Ms. Beckett, a Preschool Autism Teacher

"Toys for Teachers is a fabulous resource, and I can’t stop telling people about it! I was fortunate to receive multiple boxes packed to the brim with amazing toys, materials, and reinforcers for my preschoolers. I was truly amazed when I unpacked the stacks of beautiful puzzles, books, puppets, blocks, musical toys, etc. I never would have expected to receive so many great quality toys and materials that I can use to support my students’ learning and engagement. I’ve found myself reorganizing my classroom to accommodate for all of the new toys and materials that I received, which is an awesome “problem” to have. Thank you so incredibly much for creating this resource and sharing these extraordinarily generous donations. Everything is being put to great use with my students and is so genuinely appreciated! Thank you!!"

Ms. Houston, an Autism Teacher

"Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!!! I received items that I had asked for from the Angel Tree for the first time and I almost cried!! I teach a K-3 Enhanced Autism Classroom and my students LOVED all the items we received!! Thank you for granting my wish and making my kids so happy! Teaching takes a lot of heart and it takes a village! Thank you for sharing your beautiful heart with my classroom! I will forever be grateful! Thank you, thank you!!"

Ms. Zarou, a Learning Disabilities Teacher

"A couple of weeks ago, I walked into my classroom to a package that I was not expecting and opened it to SO many fun and useful items for my classroom. Thank you, thank you, for providing me with exactly what I asked for!!!"

Francesca, a Community Donor

"This new organization is doing a world of good! You will feel good knowing your donations are going to help local school children."

Ms. Perconti, an Autism Teacher

"I received a box full of wonderful reinforcers for my classroom today! I teach a multi-age, self-contained class of elementary students with autism. We use ABA and our students definitely respond better when we have the right reinforcers. Finding and obtaining quality reinforcers can be time consuming and expensive. Toys for Teachers definitely fills a great need for special education teachers. Thank you Toys for Teachers for your generous gifts."

Ms. Ray, an Intellectual Disabilities Teacher

"Thank you so much for the toys and puzzles! I switched grade levels this year and didn't have appropriate materials for my younger students. Toys for Teachers came through and our students are loving their new toys!"
